Technical problems....

Last week blogger deleted post from May 10th on. Did anyone else have this problem? Then when they reinstated the post all the comments were gone. I apologize if your comment was deleted, there was about 8 lost.

Tech problem number two was when my laptop got a pretty bad virus. I ended up having to do a clean install of windows 7. Thankfully I was able to backup most of my photos, except what I was going to post earlier this week. Everything was going well until the laptop just shut off today and would not turn on... I am really regretting that I did not just replace the laptop when it did almost the same thing last spring. Since then I learned to use an external hard drive but not to ditch windows :)

Look for a post on what's happening inside the polytunnel in a day or two. Bare with me as I am working on a dinosaur PC I dug out of the basement!

I'll end with a photo I took of a pair of Blue-winged Teal Ducks:

  1. I too had this happen (the blogger problem, not the virus thanfully). I was so upset I didn't want to recreate my post, so I didn't post until it finally came back and let me publish it. I was nearly done when blogger went down. What should have been a May 11th post was a May 15th post. Wierd. Glad it's back though. Hope you get everything back. Oh, and great pic of the birds!

  2. I lost comments, but not blogs. It was scary though, I was a nervous wreck by the time it came back on!

  3. Yes we had this problem too for a couple of days we couldn't post anything either. I checked the status here and the tech team were trying to solve some sort of problem which I think had arisen when they were trying to sort out a different problem

  4. It's surprising how attached we get to our blogs! Those teal look close enough to touch. Lovely photo.

  5. One of my posts they never put back up. I had to do it myself. So I lost all the comments. Luckily my Google Reader still had the post in its memory so I could just copy and paste.

  6. Blogger had some issues last week. I lost a post and some comments, but was able to repost them. Sorry about your computer woes. Which reminds me that I am overdue for a hard drive backup. I wouldn't want to loose all my photos again.

    Beautiful photo of the ducks.

  7. I have to figure out how it is you guys take these great photos. If I had your talent, I'd be storing my photos on the web (picasa, shutterfly, etc.). Heck! I DON'T have your talent and I store photos on the web. Blogger issues here as well.... love the photo you've posted today!

  8. I think everyone had a problem last week with loosing their blog but most were restored but no comments were.

I lost my laptop about a month ago but I keep everything on memory sticks or on the drive on my PC but prefer the memory sticks. However while rebuilding everything to this new laptop I inadvertently formated one of my memory sticks. 5 years of pictures and important documents gone. Fortunately or not there is a software you can buy that will reconstruct the lost information. Not cheap and very time consuming but I have found everything I think just a matter of reorganizing it.

  9. A recoverysoftware come quite often with a digital camera, have a look at the disc that comes with them.

I know it might sound scary, but I can't recommend anything more than downloading an Ubuntu-Linux live CD and burn it to a disk (CD or DVD). It is free, no strings attached.

What does that mean? Instead of Windows Ubuntu gets loaded, quite similar in look and behavior to Mac OS or Windows. This procedure won't mess with your current Windowsinstallation at all!

Any virus designed for Windows can't work there, so you can backup all your files from your Windows hard-drive to an external Harddrive or Memorystrick or Webspace, you can even surf the net while the backup is running and use your instant messenger. Then you can savely reinstall Windows and live happily ever after!

  11. Watching the recent Blogger woes made me glad I am on a different hosting service. Blogger is more mainstream but seems to be having it's fair share of problems lately.

Love the duck photo. That is Audobon Society worthy! So beautiful.
